Making a Statement

I've always loved statement necklaces but they're pretty pricey for something you can only wear once and awhile. I especially love the big chunky look of Tom Binns. After I found this post from Meagan, I was inspired to create my very own Tom Binns inspired necklace.

I call it "Tangled up in Pearly Aqua"

I took old vintage Pearls and rhinestone necklaces . . .

added some gold chain and weaved, and gathered, secured and tweaked . . .

and came up with this!

I still have to do some tweaking (like how that pearl drape looks in the front) but I am pretty happy with the outcome! And I think it will be perfect to compliment my New Years ensemble!

P.S. I am waring a shirt in the picture - it's just a tube top ;)

From Leg Warmers to a Neck Warmer

Several months ago I cleaned out my closet and because of this I had a "give to charity" bag full. A bag full that I soon forgot about. Then last night my husband politely reminded me that I had this bag and that I should take care of it.

I did.

I now have a "give to charity" bag and a "possible crafty goodness" bag. :)

While dividing up the bags I found these old grey fleece pants. I was sad to get rid of them but they have a huge hole in the behind (I snagged them on a nail) so I thought that I could do something crafty with them.

I pulled out the side stretchie strings . . .

and tied them together and burnt the edges so they wouldn't frey . . .

then I cut the pant legs into strips . . .


and then I cut the strips in half and tied them to the string . . .


Viola!!

a cute frilly grey fleece scarf just in time for winter!

And it didn't cost me a thing!
